Job overview

The Estates Supervisor has responsibility for Hard Facilities Management (FM) services and subcontracted services at NMGH. S/he will be responsible for ensuring that all buildings, plant & infrastructure are maintained safely and cost effectively within agreed statutory requirements, in accordance with NHS and the Trust’s policies and procedures.

S/he will manage and monitor programmes of work, Compliance, Health & Safety (H&S) legislation and work with the Trust’s Energy & Sustainability team to ensure efficient use of energy, power, and utilities services. S/he will deputise for the Estates Manager/Officer in his/her absence

The successful candidate will be required to have an mechanical bias with a proven ability to manage change within a growing hospital site.  Proven ability to manage large groups of staff and implement human resource strategies, with strong ability to empower, coach and support staff through their employee life cycle 

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role is to be conversant in the testing, validation, certification, and registration of all the Trusts Estates Statutory Compliance requirements are undertaken by either the in-house team, PFI service providers or qualified sub-contractors to ensure the Trust complies with its responsibilities.

Act as the site Authorised Person in several disciplines following the correct level of training. Utilise professional knowledge & specialist knowledge acquired through courses & experience.

Support in maintaining registers of Compliance as required by the Trust Compliance Manager and support the Compliance Manager in periodic audits to assure performance

Review the estate maintenance programme in conjunction with the NMGH Estates Manager/Officer to ensure that buildings conform to statutory requirements and hospital policy for safety, environmental and technical quality.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • City and Guilds Level 2 or higher in relevant trade
  • Completion of recognised and registered CITB or EITB apprenticeship
  • HNC or HND in Building services or significant experience in maintenance supervisory / manager role
  • Driving Licence
  • Broad range of engineering experience in a building services environment in a large estate
  • CP/AP Certification or similar
Desirable criteria
  • Additional related qualifications and endorsement
  • Post graduate degree in engineering or building services

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Health and Safety Certificate HTM's (knowledge and Awareness) or equivalent
  • IT Skills and experience of using Microsoft packages such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, MS Teams
Desirable criteria
  • Specialist Engineering and fault finding / problem solving knowledge
  • IOSH / NEBOSH qualified
  • Use of an electronic working platform such as CAFM systems etc.

Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge acquired through work experience in related disciplines
  • Evidence of CPD

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Good verbal communication skills, physical skills & manual handling
  • Managing a team or equivalent experience
  • Willing and able to continue personal development including undertaking training as required
  • Ability to chair meetings as required
  • Willing to adapt across multiple MFT sites and Estates disciplines.
  • Ability to write reports, input to Business Continuity Plans and generate Site Operational Plans pertaining to appointed disciplines or areas of expertise
