With one of the most varied  roles with the hospital, you be on hand to help support and fix issues across the site, making sure that visitors, workers, and patients all receive the same great experience. 

No day will ever be the same with some analysis to resolve technical issues included, you’ll be able to use your skills liaising with all types of stakeholders and clinical staff to support the running of a busy hospital.

Main duties of the job

Each day will bring a new duty and test your knowledge.  You will undertake robust estates maintenance and repair works on hospital equipment which will include installation of electrical, mechanical, carpentry, landscaping and constructive  service and hardware.  You will have the basic skills that the properties are maintained in accordance with the service level agreements and to the appropriate quality and standards expected.  

You will use your knowledge and experience to prioritise your workload to affect change within the hospital to build a safe environment for clients, visitors, and staff.   The multi skilled demands of the role will include carrying out planned preventative maintenance, and reactive maintenance and repair of mechanical systems as well as being trained on new systems. 

You will ensure the safe and responsible use and manual handling of equipment, whilst working in potentially hazardous environments (switch/plant rooms and workshop) and/or environmental conditions (confined spaces, heat, cold, wet, and dirty) observing H&S and Codes of Practice

There is plenty of scope for progression and up-skilling your current knowledge with on-site training and courses that will expand your comprehension of the role.  You will be part of a team who will welcome a start of the art, leading edge hospital facility as NMGH is one of the health infrastructure plan (HIP) hospitals to be redeveloped.

Person specification

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 vocational qualification in building / engineering services or equivalent experience
  • Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and COSHH requirements
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ Level 3
  • City and Guilds Level 3
  • ONC in relevant Engineering subject
  • GCSEs Maths and English
  • Health & Safety Certificates
  • Manual Handling Training
  • First Aid Trained
  • Valid Driving License

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Basic experience in electrical, mechanical, landscape and general construction works
  • Experience in Operational Estates delivery or relevant trade experience
Desirable criteria
  • NHS experience
  • Experience Installation and Maintenance Processes and Procedures
  • Customer Skills
  • Experience in the production and development of estate related audits and control procedures
  • Working knowledge of Health Technical Memoranda (HTM’s), Health Building Notes (HBN’s)
  • Experience of working in a pressurised reactive environment
  • Knowledge of a variety of computer-based Building Management Systems i.e. CAFM
