Job overview

To provide strong clinical leadership within your scope of practice to Crumpsall Vale Intermediate unit.

To support the Band 7 Therapy Lead in the day-to-day management of the therapy team and patient flow through the unit

To act autonomously in the management of an adult caseload with a varying degree of rehabilitation complexity. The post holder will be expected to provide expert clinical opinion on cognition, risk management and functional abilities including rehab potential.

To supervise and support junior Occupational Therapists by providing appraisals, supervision sessions and peer support and the training of junior staff including students.

To act as project lead in Crumpsall Vale to introduce service change/improvement projects and ensure the delivery of a high quality, evidence based intermediate care service.

To supporting team members to deliver on their objectives through offering advice, guidance and support as appropriate with the focus being on delivering a high quality and efficient intermediate care service.

Main duties of the job

To take overall responsibility for the efficient, effective, and safe delivery of Occupational Therapy intervention for patients accessing the intermediate care service.

To work at an advanced level in the assessment and management of complex patients, using advanced clinical reasoning and a variety of evidence-based, Working predominantly in the intermediate care unit but also completing access and home assessments where required.

To manage an efficient flow through the unit ensuring discharges are completed in a timely manner and caseloads managed in accordance to a patient centred goal setting Ensuring that patients and activity are prioritized and delegated appropriately to reflect the service demand and complexity of the patients need.

To Lead on the implementation of new evidence-based OT interventions and support the unit leads to introduce wider service and pathway developments to ensure a high quality, effective and efficient service is provided to patients receiving rehabilitation.

To provide expert guidance and advice to other professions and bodies across community services and integrated neighborhood teams regarding area of expertise in rehabilitation, and to the patients and their carer’s.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registration
  • Honours degree in occupational therapy or equivalent
  • Evidence of CPD in the form of a portfolio
  • Relevant post graduate training – demonstrating post graduate diploma level knowledge
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership training
  • Communication skills training
  • Clinical educator qualification and or completion of relevant Masters level courses
  • Active member of relevant specialist interest group

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration and relevant experience in specialist area
  • Experience working with people with complex pathology/ complex social needs/mental health issues.
  • Ability to work autonomously within specialist clinical area and as part of a team.
  • Case-holding responsibilities
  • Experience of team leadership/Teaching/supervising and appraising
  • Manual handling skills to support patients as required/manage equipment
  • Ability to manage crisis and reorganise workload at short notice
  • Experience of partnership working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within an intermediate care setting

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
