Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, dedicated and innovative highly specialist Paediatric Audiologist to join our Team. The Paediatric Audiology Service is based at North Manchester General Hospital, and delivers services across the community of North Manchester.

 

The post holder will be a passionate clinician, focused on ensuring a strong evidence base to decision making, with highly specialist knowledge and experience in routine and complex paediatric diagnostics and rehabilitation including ABR.

 

The post holder is expected to be an active leader and a positive role model for the service who will jointly lead the delivery and development of the Paediatric Rehabilitation service in collaboration with current Diagnostic Paediatric Lead and Clinical & Operational Head of Service.

 

MFT North Audiology are a forward-thinking service, and staff are expected to be flexible and proactive in their approach to providing a first-class service to our child aged population.

 

The post holder will have a specific requirement to work towards IQIPS accreditation and development of a strong governance structure within the paediatric team which stimulates and leads continuous improvement

Person specification

Ed and Professional Quals

Essential criteria
  • • BSc Audiology /Healthcare Science or BAAT part 1 & 2 or equivalent
  • • Certificate of Audiological Competence /Diploma in Clinical Competence in Audiology or equivalent
  • • State Registration (AHCS / HCPC)
  • ABR Training, Clinical competencies and experience
Desirable criteria
  • • MSc in Audiology/Healthcare Science
  • Leadership qualification

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Extensive post qualification clinical experience with NHS Audiology/Healthcare Science appropriate to grade
  • • Extensive knowledge of paediatric audiological procedures and approaches
  • • Extensive experience of programming, fitting and assessing benefit of digital hearing aids
  • • Experience of training other staff, medical and non-medical in audiological techniques
  • • Extensive experience of undertaking clinics in a variety of settings
  • • Good knowledge of NHS and health policy related to children’s health and wellbeing
  • • Good understanding of children’s health services including safeguarding
  • • Maintain an up to date knowledge and skills base which reflects paediatric evidence based practice
  • • Understanding of need for confidentiality
  • • Understanding of clinical governance and the importance of clinical audit
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Understanding of the IQIPS accreditation process
Desirable criteria
  • • Comprehensive knowledge of specialist audiological area of Non-organic hearing loss/ advanced testing techniques/Auditory Processing Disorders/Single Sided Deafness/Tinnitus and Hyperacusis/ANSD/Auditory brainstem response testing in babies
  • • Audit and Service development experience

SKILLS/ABILITY

Essential criteria
  • • Skilled in a wide range of audiological test performed with children, adolescents and learning disabled adults
  • • Skilled in using recognised techniques necessary for hearing aid fitting including the taking of real ear measurements
  • • Enthusiastic about specialist areas and able to motivate others to learn
  • • Ability to analyse complex data, facts and other evidence to identify problems and to propose and implement solutions
  • • Ability to use good judgement in a range of situations, including dealing appropriately with angry or distressed individuals
  • • Ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • • Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative
  • • High level computer and IT skills
  • • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
