Job overview

We are excited to welcome applications for the role of Senior Paramedic in North Cumbria and Morecambe Bay.  The role of Senior Paramedic is a vital component of the leadership structure and is key to the development, support and leadership of the clinical teams in PES Operations. 

Applications are invited from compassionate and inclusive paramedics with the vision and drive to take the next step on their career and embark on this opportunity to lead our incredible clinical teams.  As a Senior Paramedic, you will supervise and support your team, through feedback, clinical supervision, appraisals and welfare support, ultimately leading them to be the very best they can be.  You will work very closely with the wider leadership team to enable effective delivery of our services, actively engaging with activities that promote a safe workplace and safe clinical practice, including risk management, incident investigation, clinical audit and resource management, aiming to ensure that NWAS continues to deliver a safe and effective service to the public of the North West.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Paramedic reports directly to the Group Manager and working with the Group Senior Paramedic team, and wider Sector team will ensure efficient delivery of our services.  They will work predominately on an emergency ambulances, working alongside their team to support clinical practice and ensuring they are updated on key messages from the local leadership team.  They will work with the Sector Paramedic Learning Facilitator and Sector Clinical Lead, to support NQPs and Students assigned to their team.  Successful candidates will be supported to develop the skills and experiences necessary to deliver outstanding leadership to their team.  

Time will also be provided (equivalent of 1 x 7.5hr shift per week) to undertake leadership duties away from a responding resource.   There will be opportunities to complete some limited time on an RV, however the focus of this role will be working with and supporting the team.

Working for our organisation

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • HCPC registered Paramedic working to full scope of autonomous practice.
  • BSC in Health Care Practice or equivalent professional experience.
  • Full UK Driving license, including C1.
  • Appropriate emergency driving qualification.

Experience

  • Evidence of experience in leadership and mentoring.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting others with CPD/ development.
