Mental Health Joint Response Vehicle Practitioner

Job overview

The Mental Health Joint Response Vehicle in partnership with North West Ambulance offers  an immediate comprehensive assessment of a service users mental health when they present in crisis, with a suspected or actual mental health problem that can be assessed, treated, signposted, or referred appropriately, presenting complaint, time of presentation or severity.

The service puts an emphasis on Robust and Urgent detailed biopsychosocial assessment and safe and effective discharge from the mental health response car and on the facilitation of early but effective discharge within the community. The service currently operates 7 days a week collaborative working with Northwest Ambulance Service (NWAS) covering days and nights on shift rotation as the service expands- initial shifts will be twilights.

Main duties of the job

  • Respond and assess the day-to-day emergency referrals received via NWAS EOC.
  • To respond to NWAS graded incidents with an allocated driving paramedic, within the allocated response time.
  • Undertake timely mental health assessments with service users of all age, presenting in a mental health crisis within the community.
  • Be a source of specialist knowledge and advice to professionals at all levels within the community around care and management of service users presenting with primary and secondary mental health needs.
  • Be responsible for the development of treatment plans with service users’ involvement, if appropriate this will include the autonomous discharge. As part of this role, it is expected that the post holder will liaise and communicate with appropriate statutory and non-statutory agencies or care providers when developing treatment and discharge plans.
  • Assess individuals with a range of complex needs, such as organic and functional illness, this would include dementia and a range of illnesses associated with people from later life. In addition, there will be a requirement to assess individuals with learning disabilities.

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Mental Nurse compliant with requirements for NMC registration. Master’s degree or equivalent experience in acute mental health assessment, risk assessment, multiagency working. Evidence of continued CPD in the field of acute mental health, urgent, crisis care. Evidence of working with people living with personality disorders.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of STORM training and our trauma informed care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience at Band 6 or above. Post registration experience of working in adult acute mental health services Evidence of post registration training / development. Effective team working within a multi-agency framework Demonstrate experience of problem-solving approaches Audit and research practices relevant to clinical area Experience of working autonomously with people whom are in mental health crisis and a risk to self and others Evidence based and experience of reflective practice Experience working in traumatic, challenging, distressing environments where you may encounter barriers to understanding.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in assessment for all ages. Experience in management of complaints/ compliments.
