Job overview

The Ophthalmology Department based at Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport has an opportunity for a suitably qualified Doctor to join our team.

We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing speciality Doctor with the ability to practice across a range of sub-specialities including but not limiting to Glaucoma, Medical Retina, Cornea, Oculoplastic, Cataract, Emergency and General Ophthalmology.

The ability to undertake interocular injections would also be required.

The department is a teaching environment supporting the educational and clinical development of junior trainees and non-medical teams (including Nurse Practitioners, Orthoptists and Optometrists) therefore will be expected to support their development within extended roles.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

To undertake new and follow-up out-patient clinics across all sub-specialties, being able to investigate, diagnose and manage with autonomy under the supervision of a Consultant.

Be part of  Ophthalmology emergency department cover team to provide complex and non-complex consultations and appropriate follow-up.

Undertake interocular  injections as required.

Undertake triage of urgent and routine new referrals allocating patients to the most appropriate clinic.

Support the education and training of colleagues within the eye care team and external health professionals as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applications are invited for the above position, to commence as soon as possible. This is a substantive post within an expanding Ophthalmology team.

This post will join the existing team to help shape the expanding Ophthalmology Service. The post will be based at Stepping Hill Hospital. The successful candidate will join a team of

9 Ophthalmology Consultants, middle grade posts. The department is also supported by a number of highly trained Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioners and an Orthoptic department..
