Job overview
The Wigan Specialist Community Mental Health Team (SCMHT) are looking to welcome an additional Community Mental Health Practitioner to the team.
This posts follow on from our first successful round of recruitment as part of our Community Transformation Plan and implementation of the streaming model of care in the SCMHT.
For this post we are looking for someone to come and work with our depot team, which will involve running a regular clinic for our service users to administer the medication, if this is of interest to you then we would like to hear from you.
We currently have other opportunities within different areas in the SCMHT so if you aren't sure whether you would prefer to work please reach out for discussion, we welcome that you can apply for this position. We can offer opportunity for you to spend some time working across the SCMHT, working with your skills, experience and preference in line with the service needs.
This post is a full-time position (37.5 hours) and the working hours will be 8am – 8pm 7 days a week. We also encourage applications from staff wanting to work part time hours. Flexible working can be discussed. The post is based at Claire House in Wigan. The post holder will be expected to travel across the Borough to attend satellite clinics across Wigan and Leigh.
Main duties of the job
The Specialist Community Mental Health Team provides care, treatment and support to adults with significant mental health needs, living in Wigan and Leigh.
The Community Mental Health Practitioners will mainly support the depot stream function of the SCMHT which involves screening referrals, offering assessments to patients accepted to the service for assessment and working collaboratively with patients and families to identify the appropriate care and treatment plan for their needs. This role would be a non-caseloading role.
We also have opportunities to support in a caseloading role within one of our streams to support an identified caseload of patients with severe and complex mental health conditions under the direct clinical supervision of a Senior Case Manager (Band 7).
You would also be involved in managing duty calls from adult service users, with severe and enduring mental illness, calls from their carer's, friends and families, for adults who are predominantly open to the team offering advice and support.
Staff wellbeing and development is paramount – full supernumerary status will be provided to support induction to the team for the first 4 weeks in post. Your skills and development opportunities will be supported as part of your induction process and reviewed regularly during line management supervision and an annual appraisal. As well as regular reflective practice sessions.

- Professional registration (RMN, OT or Social Worker).
