Job overview
Manchester Early Detection & Intervention Team ( EDIT) is the ARMS pathway for Manchester. It is a stand -alone therapy service which provides specialist assessment and psychological treatment for 14-35 year olds who have an At Risk Mental State.
Main duties of the job
In conjunction with the EDIT therapy colleagues, the post holders will conduct specialist CAARMS assessments (training will be provided) and manage an individual caseload of complex and varied therapy clients. The post holders will be responsible for providing evidence-based therapies, to formulate and treat psychological difficulties with our client group.
This job description recognises the need to engage with appropriate supervision and professional development as a core theme.

Person specification
Education and training
Essential criteria
- Doctoral level professional qualification, or equivalent, in Clinical/Counselling Psychology enabling registration as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Healthcare Professions’ Council. OR A registered qualification in healthcare at graduate level in nursing, social work or allied health profession PLUS post- graduate diploma (or equivalent) in cognitive behaviour therapy.
Desirable criteria
- Post-qualification experience of delivering therapy to people experiencing psychosis.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience of applying cognitive behaviour therapy to a wide range of mental health problems.
- Experience of conducting high quality risk assessments and implementing risk management plans.
- Experience of ‘formulating’ client’s presenting problems using psychological models Experience of delivering formulation driven interventions.
- Experience of managing complex risk and safeguarding issues.
Desirable criteria
- Specialist experience in early intervention for psychosis, cognitive therapy for psychosis or at risk mental state, family interventions for psychosis and the prevention of psychosis
- Experience in the use of psychosis-specific semistructured interviews (e.g. PANSS; CAARMS; PSYRATS).
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- A high level of knowledge about evidence based psychological therapies (including cognitive behaviour therapy) for anxiety disorders.
Desirable criteria
- A high level of knowledge about the evidence base for interventions for an At-Risk Mental State and the prevention of the development of serious mental health problems.
