Employment Adviser

Band 4

Job overview

The Employment Adviser Service launched in Greater Manchester in May 2024 as part of a funded pilot to provide tailored employment support alongside psychological therapies. The aim is to support people to improve their wellbeing through meaningful activity and employment. The current pilot runs until March 2026 and is being closely evaluated to demonstrate its effectiveness. Subject to the outcome of this evaluation and confirmation of future funding, the ambition is for the Employment Adviser Service to become a permanent part of the Talking Therapies model in Greater Manchester. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing and forward-thinking team at a pivotal stage in its development.

The Employment Adviser will be part of the Greater Manchester Talking Therapies (previously IAPT) service, which supports people with common mental health problems by providing psychological therapies. This role will involve providing employment support to service users to help them move closer to, gain, return, or stay in work.

The post holder will be part of the Greater Manchester Talking Therapies Manchester Team.  However, the postholder may be required to travel and work across the GMMH footprint depending on service needs.

Contract duration will be dependent on start date. Fixed term contract end date will be 31st March 2026. Potential for post to be extended subject to Funding.

Main duties of the job

You will help clients plan their route towards meaningful activity and employment. Your role will be to create support mechanisms, liaising and engaging with Employers, Education and Training services, Employment Support Services and Third Sector Organisations.

You will be joining the Employment Adviser Service at a key stage in its development, with opportunities to help shape the future of the service.  As part of growing an innovative team, you will be encouraged to share your ideas and contribute to the ongoing development of an integral employment therapy offer.  Your input will help inform how the service evolves, as we build a model that meets the needs of our clients and local communities.
