Job overview

Mental health services in Manchester are working towards Community Transformation; with a new framework the vision is for a place-based community mental health model. 

We recognise that social work plays a key role within this.  Social work is critical in upholding individuals’ human rights, fostering a strengths and asset based approach to an individual’s mental health recovery; and a component to multi-disciplinary integrated working.

As such, we are looking for a Social Worker who is able to take up a role in supporting our service users in delivering high quality, person centred, strength based social care duties, through empowering assessments and support for individuals within our Specialist CMHTs in North Manchester.

We have bimonthly AMHP and social work forums.  You will have access to social work specific supervision delivered by an experienced social worker.    Alongside this there are opportunities to be involved in research or complete psychosocial intervention training

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for carrying out social work duties is a fast paced multi-disciplinary team requiring the highest levels of skills, knowledge and professional expertise. You will ensure the delivery of effective, safe integrated services for adults through the promotion of high standards of practice in assessments and person-centred planning, being creative to meet individual outcomes.  The role involves: 

·       Assessing, planning and review in line with requirements of the Care Act (2014) and s117 of the Mental Health Act (1983).

·       Taking a strengths based and assessed based approach to support

·       Work with a caseload of individuals in a collaborative way to support in the development of their assessments, recovery plans and structured care plans

·       Signpost to non-statutory services or commission packages of care.

·       Complete high quality assessments of Mental Capacity (in line with Mental Capacity Act 2005) and chair Best Interest Meetings

·       Make safeguarding enquiries in line with s42 of the care Act (2014) ensuring that safeguarding is person centred, outcomes achieved and risk mitigated

·       Comply with SWE Professional Standards and be Registered with Social Work England ,

·       Comply with legislation, national and local policies and procedures.

Person specification

Education / Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Professional Qualification in Social Work eg BA or MA or equivalent
  • Registered with Social Work England
Desirable criteria
  • Practice Educator
  • AMHP
  • BIA

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Have experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of completing assessments in line with key legislations and formulating how a decision has been reached
  • Experience of producing collaborative person centred care plans
Desirable criteria
  • Completing s42 enquiries
  • Completing Mental Capacity Act assessments

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Working knowledge of Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act (2005) Mental Health Act (1983) and Human Rights Act (1998) and relevant case law.
  • Knowledge of national and local policy around mental health and social care
  • Knowledge and application of risk assessment and formulation

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to apply Strengths Based and recovery focused approach
  • Communication skills that enable engagement
  • Ability to co-produce person centred plans
  • Ability to reflect on own practice and change approach where necessary
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to write reports to a standard expected within a court setting

  • There is a frequent requirement to travel mainly within the CMHT area in order to visit service users in their homes or in other community basis and an occasional requirement to travel across the wide footprint of the Trust to attend meetings and events relevant to the role.
