Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time (18.75 hours) Dietetic Assistant Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive Nutrition and Dietetic Service on a fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave (9 months).
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team (MDT). You will play a key role in supporting the delivery and development of our Nutrition and Dietetic service.
What we can offer:
· A diverse caseload to help you develop skills and knowledge in areas such as weight management, diabetes, 1:1 consultation, group work, and nutrition support under the supervision of a registered Dietitian.

Main duties of the job
To carry a delegated caseload which remains with the responsibility of the Registered Dietitian, often working without direct supervision.
To provide Dietetic support to service users who have a range of mental health conditions.
To engage service users and other health care professionals in the implementation and dietary intervention plans and/or activities to support them in achieving identified goals and to promote well-being.
Contribute to the delivery of education programmes (with support from the wider multidisciplinary team) including adapting/creating recipes, shopping and support cooking sessions for service users e.g. “Motiv8”, healthy lifestyle groups and “afternoon tea”
To promote a positive image of people with mental health conditions.
To promote a positive image of the Dietetic Service within the Trust.

Person specification
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- • Basic knowledge of eating, drinking and nutritional matters relating to service users in own area.
- • Basic knowledge of nutritional analysis.
- • Ability to plan and deliver sessions to both service users and other health care professionals.
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Awareness of role of Dietitian
- • Experience working with service users with mental health conditions.
- • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of working with groups of people who have eating and drinking difficulties
- • Experience of food and fluid charts
- • Experience of running group sessions.
Skills
Essential criteria
- • Demonstrate effective communication skills.
- • Good decision making, problem solving and negotiating skills.
- • Ability to manage and prioritise own clinical case load.
- • Demonstrate organisational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
