Hours: 0.4WTE (Permanent)

This is an excellent opportunity to support specialist HIV services at the Dept of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine based at North Manchester General Hospital (MFT) to strengthen their commitment to offering high quality holistic care to service users living with or affected by HIV across the north sector of Greater Manchester. You will work as an integrated member of the HIV MDT providing an expert psychological care model (including neuropsychological assessments).

For 8A appointment: You will have gained post qualification experience in physical health settings (ideally you will have experience working with in a HIV setting and be familiar with the complex issues arising) as well as a familiarity and commitment to working with a medical multidisciplinary team as well as inpatient/outpatient and community settings. Band 7 appointment considered for less experienced candidates.

You will work as an independent Practitioner Psychologist with your own clinical case load; as well contribute to staff consultation, research and multidisciplinary work.

The post holder will be supported and supervised by a senior Clinical Psychologist working in related Physical Health services. You will have appropriate access to in-house and specialist CPD. Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust are the host trust and the postholder will be employed under a service level agreement that exists with Manchester Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Qualifications

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • • Professional qualification in Clinical/Counselling/Health Psychology at doctoral level (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
  • • Registration as a clinical/counselling/health psychologist with the HCPC

  • • Training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological relevance (e.g. staff training, research methodology, and / or other fields of applied psychology)

Experience

  • • Experience of working with client groups in a physical health setting, presenting with the full range of clinical severity. This includes maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the possible threat of physical abuse. Less experienced candidates will be offered a preceptorship development role and commence at Band 7 whilst working towards 8A competencies.
  • • Experience of working as a qualified clinical/counselling/health psychologist
  • • Experience in the application of cognitive-behavioural approaches to clinical settings
  • • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment.
  • • Experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.

  • • Experience of working within medical/surgical environments, delivering evidenced based psychological interventions to clients with physical health conditions such as HIV.
  • • Experience of providing supervision and training

Knowledge

  • • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology.
  • • Knowledge of the theory and practice of at least two specialised psychological therapies.

  • • Knowledge of legislation in relation to clients of the HIV service, and of relevant mental health legislation.
  • • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists

Skills

  • • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • • Ability to use own initiative and to work under supervision where appropriate.
  • • Ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise effectively with other professionals.
  • • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, highly technical, and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
