Job overview

Working at MFT will mean working in one of the most progressive and innovative IT departments in the NHS. MFT is delivering real time information and cutting edge technology to its patients and staff . MFT has recently installed an enterprise Electronic Patient Record and looking to use data warehousing and business intelligence to support the decision making of clinical and operational staff.

To achieve in this exciting role you will need; a real eye for detail, an analytical mindset, excellent communication skills, a willingness and ability to liaise with our stakeholders to interpret requirements and transform them into technical specifications along with an enthusiasm to get the job done to the highest standards. You will have advanced technical knowledge in a range of areas of IM&T, and evidence of using various information analysis techniques such as SQL, Access, Excel including Pivot Tables.  Power BI experience desirable.

Communicating and visualising complex data is a key part of this role, with the aim of developing a shared understanding of the health and care environment.  The role will offer a hybrid working model with the ideal candidate on site for two to three days per week.

The assessment process for this role includes Sphinx testing which an aptitude assessment designed to evaluate critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.

Main duties of the job

Experience of working with NHS data is desirable but exceptional candidates without previous NHS experience will be considered.

The post-holder will develop, automate and streamline regular report processes in SQL including current statutory and operational reports. 
This post will be set within the Analytics and Insights team working collaboratively with colleagues across Information Services and Data Assurance, and lead on the development of technical solutions to support the organisation.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of a performance-focused culture where safety, effectiveness and patient experience are consistently delivered through the
provision of high-quality performance information, analytical interpretation, benchmarking, forecasting and intelligent modelling.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in numerate/technical discipline or equivalent relevant experience
  • Evidence of on-going self-development regarding SQL Server and associated products
Desirable criteria
  • Master’s degree in numerate discipline or equivalent relevant NHS experience

Experience / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience of working in an Information team
  • Experience of activity planning and producing complex numerical analysis
  • Evidence of using various information analysis techniques such as Excel, SQL, Access, Pivot Tables and any associated tools
  • Experience of documenting complex procedures
  • Able to analyse highly complex specialist information and display the ability to explain findings and resolve any issues
  • Able to interpret information received and react appropriately
  • Experience of SQL scriptwriting & components
  • Ability to scope information requirements with nontechnical staff and translate this into a detailed requirement specification for development
  • Ability to work towards tight deadlines and remain calm under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team offering advice and support where necessary
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS, data flows, data definitions and info sources
  • Understanding of OLAP / R / Python
