Job overview

CAMHS has a long history of providing services to children and young people with moderate to severe mental health needs, learning disabilities and complex presentations of autism, as well as working closely with the networks around young people and their families, including schools, local authority and other agencies.  The postholder will be the clinical lead for North Manchester Core CAMHS providing assessment, intervention and support to this population. 

As a  highly specialist Clinical Psychologist/Equivalent Psychological Practitioner with  lengthy clinical experience and post-qualification training, the post-holder will work alongside other senior staff to provide leadership to support the systematic delivery of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology/psychological service to children, young people and families in North Manchester, in the context of a comprehensive and integrated CAMHS.

Main duties of the job

Services will include specialist assessments and interventions with children, young people and families, group work, staff training, consultation and support and provision of psychological advice including multiagency liaison around complex cases. The post-holder will supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychologists and other clinical members of the multidisciplinary teams who provide psychologically based care and treatment. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systematic governance of psychological practice within the service.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • You must have a recognised qualification. Recognised qualifications are: Registered Nursing: RMN/RSCN/RNMH Social Work (CQSW/DipSW) Doctorate in Clinical Psychology Occupational Therapy (BSc or Dip COT) Relevant post graduate qualification or training in area relevant to service delivery You must be registered/accredited with a professional body: e.g. NMC, SW England, HCPC, BACP
Desirable criteria
  • Qualifications in Psychological Therapies to Diploma or Masters level e.g. CBT / SFT/ IPT
  • Mentorship course ENB998 or equivalent
  • Leadership Qualification

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in assessment and therapeutic work with children and families across the age range with a full range of presenting problems and across settings including community, outpatient and clinic settings.
  • Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients’ psychological care and treatment independently and within a multidisciplinary and multiagency context.
  • Experience of consulting with health care and other professionals.
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
  • Substantial experience of delivering specialist skills in at least one therapeutic modality
  • Extensive experience of case management, including experience of assessing and managing risk: including safeguarding
  • Experience of staff management and evidence of managerial skills and knowledge
  • Evidence of successful partnership working with other professional groups
  • Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance and a willingness to follow Trust Policy and Procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of professional systems involved in work with children.
  • Experience of working autonomously as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience of working in developing services.
  • Experience of the application of clinical psychology in different cultural contexts.
  • Experience of running therapeutic groups.

Education and Supervision

Essential criteria
  • Experience in designing, planning and undertaking clinical research and service evaluation.
  • Experience in teaching and training staff from other professional groups in psychological skills and concepts.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the BPS.
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists/mental health practitioners
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching, training and supervision of assistant psychologists and trainee clinical psychologists and mental health practitioners.
  • Positive approach to own continuing professional development

Skills and Ability.
