Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced nurses to join our passionate Cardiac specialist nurse team at MFT. The post is a 12 month secondment covering maternity leave.

You will be at the center of our famous Cardiac specialist nurse team, providing our patients with the best journey through their pathway. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a new setting and increase your Cardiac/Cardiology knowledge.

You will be supported to develop the skills to working independently and autonomously alongside a designated surgeon group and their patients. Supporting your patients through the whole of their cardiac patient journey.

You must possess excellent communication skills and a minimum of three years post registration experience and cardiac surgery and/or cardiology experience. 

Main duties of the job

The cardiac surgery specialist nurse will be expected to participate in the assessment, planning and delivery of direct patient care throughout the cardiac surgical patient journey. They will work in collaboration with the Consultant Cardiothoracic surgeons, lead specialist nurse and admin team in the scheduling of patients for theatre. They will also preoperatively assess, optimise, review and prepare patients who are listed for Cardiac surgery. They will assist in the optimisation of the non elective pathway patients ensuring they are ready for urgent surgery. They will act as an advocate, contact and support for their own caseload of patients waiting for Cardiac surgery. They will undertake any other duties deemed appropriate to the band when requested by Senior Staff.

  • NMC registration
  • Recognised teaching qualification or experience
  • Evidence of continuing education and professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to degree level

Skills

  • Able to relate theory to practice
  • Excellent clinical skills – interpreting blood results and observations
  • Ability to work autonomously, independently and within a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written, and verbal
  • Good time management
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise own workload to promote an efficient service
  • IT skills (EPR, word processing, excel, email, and internet as a minimum)

Experience
