Consultant in Paediatric and Perinatal Histopathology

YC72

Job overview

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) was formed in 2017 following the merger of Central Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM). With the inclusion of North Manchester General Hospital from the 1st April 2021, our organisation provides a single hospital service across the City of Manchester, where these changes will make a real difference to the health outcomes and quality of life for the communities we serve. As a result, it is an exciting and challenging period in the delivery of health and social care in Manchester and one that provides a wealth of opportunity.

THE POST

We are seeking to appoint a committed full-time (10 PA) Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologist to join our experienced and highly motivated team.  This post will include perinatal and coroner’s postmortem pathology, placental pathology, and routine paediatric surgical pathology.

Main duties of the job

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

You will join a team of six other full and part time Consultant Paediatric and Perinatal Pathologists.  The main responsibilities of this post would be:-

  • Participation in the perinatal and hospital-consented autopsy service.
  • Participation in the coroner’s autopsy service.
  • Reporting placentas.
  • Reporting routine paediatric surgical pathology, including gastrointestinal biopsies.
  • Sub specialist reporting may be required to meet the needs of the department.
  • Contribution to the paediatric oncology/neuro-oncology service.
  • Involvement in relevant clinicopathological meetings and MDTs.
  • Contribution to the training and supervision of junior medical staff.

HM Coroner Postmortems can be undertaken within or outside the job plan and this can be discussed based on service needs at the time of the appointment, expertise and interests of the appointee.
