Trainee Biomedical Scientist

Band 5

Job overview

The Cervical Cytology department at Manchester University Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit Trainee Biomedical Scientists to join our Cervical Cytology team.

We currently process approximately 450,000 requests producing approximately 70,000 cervical cytology slides using the Hologic ThinPrep LBC system. We are committed to quality and improvement and research activities. The department is UKAS accredited and IBMS approved for training.

To be shortlisted for this role you will hold an IBMS accredited degree. The post holder will work within the Cervical Cytology Department and will undertake training to screen and report liquid based cervical cytology preparations, working towards the NHSCSP recognised Certificate in Cervical Cytology and the IBMS Registration portfolio. We will also consider candidates working towards HCPC re-registration.

We are looking for either full or part-time working, and you must be flexible to work within the departmental opening hours of 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and cover Saturday mornings on a rota basis.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will undertake training in laboratory work within Cervical Cytology using a wide range of complex analytical procedures to enable them to become a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist

While training, the post holder will be required to work with the Training Officer to ensure they meet the IBMS code of conduct, HCPC standards of proficiency, and HCPC standards of performance conduct and ethics. This will ensure the post holder is able to gather evidence and verification of practice to meet the requirements of the IBMS Registration Portfolio.
