Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our MFT dental laboratories for a forward-thinking Prosthetics Dental Technician (Band 5) to work with our team at the University Dental Hospital of Manchester. 

Experience in a broad range of prosthetics techniques and materials  is required.  

Applications are invited from Dental Technicians who are fully registered with the General Dental Council and hold a recognized academic qualification in dental technology. 

We encourage applications from dental technicians whether your experience and background is based in a commercial dental laboratory or NHS hospital setting.   

 

We currently utilize both analogue & digital production processes across all laboratory departments & currently have multiple CAD systems that are supported by on site 3D printing & milling CAM systems. 

On a daily basis you will help to meet the needs of the NHS and University staff including Clinical Staff, Postgraduate and Undergraduate Dental Students and Qualified Dental Technicians.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an innovative, talented and self-motivated individual to join our extended dental team. The successful candidate will have good knowledge and practical experience of prosthetics restorations. There is also a shared responsibility to support the wider restorative team within the laboratory, when needed.
Duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Undertake the construction, repair and adaptation of a range of prosthetic restorations.
  • Develop skills in specialized work.
  • Construction of a variety of appliances and restorations to support the Restorative services plus the wider TMD, Oral Medicine & Oral Surgery Clinics, -  training will be provided in house as required.
  • Work effectively as part of a team demonstrating attention to detail, good organizational & communication skills plus compliance with laboratory regulations and protocols.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize work within a busy laboratory environment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Minimum current registerable qualification in dental technology, as prescribed by the GDC, or equivalent.
  • Current registration with the GDC as a Dental Technician
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced Level Dental Technology Qualification (BSc Hons, HNC, HND, C&G Advanced Certificate, LCGI,)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a range of specialised technical procedures within appropriate discipline.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of Medical Devices Directive.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience working in a dental laboratory.
