Dietetic Assistant

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

Due to a successful internal promotion from dietetic assistant to apprentice dietitian, we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic person to join our friendly diverse acute and rehabilitation team as a dietetic assistant. Whether you are starting out in your career, returning to the workforce or looking for a change in direction; if you have an interest in nutrition and a passion for helping people, this is the job for you!

We are looking for someone who is interested in nutrition and working in a hospital environment to support our general and specialist medical and surgical teams to ensure that our patients receive the best possible nutritional care. You will be made welcome within our friendly department and will be given guidance and be well supported by a dedicated clinical supervisor. You will have additional peer support from other dietetic assistants who are currently in post in our renal team and at different hospital sites across Manchester Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for reviewing nutritional care plans for adult patients in an acute hospital setting across a range of general and medical wards at Manchester Royal Infirmary. This will involve communicating with members of the wider multidisciplinary team including dietitians, catering, medical/ nursing staff, allied health care professionals (physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists) and other medical professionals.

There will be opportunities to prepare and contribute to patient group education and training sessions. You will be a key part of any health promotion campaigns which raise the profile of dietetics for example dietitians week, AHP (allied health professional) week, nutrition and hydration week
