Job overview

Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital (RMCH) is a large tertiary Children’s Hospital that provides secondary, regional and supra-regional services to include most dietetic clinical paediatric specialties across 3 Manchester hospital sites .

We have an exciting opportunity for a  Band 5 or Band 6  paediatric dietitian  part-time or fulltime  to join our dynamic  paediatric dietetic team. (Grade is according to experience).

Dietitians are well respected and valued members of RMCH multi-disciplinary teams, and provide both IP and OP services to a comprehensive range of paediatric Tertiary , secondary and neonatal specialties

Our RMCH dietetic service is led by a professional paediatric dietetic lead and comprises;

5 x B8a clinical specialist / paediatric dietetic team leads

1 x ACP in ketogenic diet therapies

20 x B7 paediatric dietitians

7x B6 rotational paediatric dietitians

2 x static B7 paediatric dietitians ( North Manchester)

1 static B7 and B6 paediatric dietitians (Wythenshawe)

1 x dietetic apprentice

4 x paediatric dietetic assistant

Special Feeds Unit supervisors and assistants

Main duties of the job

We welcome applicants ideally from dietitians with good acute clinical dietetic  and experience in the UK  acute NHS for a band 6 post . We will  also consider applications from newly qualified dietitians as a band 5 . 

Paediatric dietetic experience  not essential as we can fully support your development  .You  must  be able to demonstrate  interest, experience  and an enthusiasm  working with children and their families .

The  clinical workload is varied  and you will work alongside more experienced dietitians and multi-disciplinary teams in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The post will provide opportunity to gain experience over time across a broad spectrum of clinical specialties and different multi-disciplinary teams

We are looking for HCPC registered dietitians ideally with  recent UK NHS acute clinical experience

We will offer a comprehensive inhouse training package of tutorials individually tailored to your  developmental needs. 

We will  assign a mentor to you to  provide clinical supervision and ensure we are appropriately supporting your development

There is potentially the opportunity to attend the BDA paediatric master’s modules (currently online)

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc. or MSc. in Dietetics OR BSc. in relevant science plus Post Graduate Diploma or MSc. in Dietetics
  • HCPC Registration
  • For band 6 - post grad training - PENG or BDA

Skills/Experience

Essential criteria
  • Pre or post registration clinical paediatric dietetic experience
  • Understanding of the different approach to teaching children/carers
  • Specialist knowledge of dietetic assessment and treatment techniques
  • Understanding of clinical effectiveness and its implications for services including experience of quality issues, audit and evidence-based practice
  • Experience of liaising and dealing with children
Desirable criteria
  • For B6 Recent post registration clinical dietetic experience in an acute hospital setting
  • For B6 Evidence of Continual Professional Development in dietetics e.g. PENG – nutrition support , paediatric Dietetics etc
  • For B6 Evidence of contribution to clinical education and in-service training of less experienced staff/students and assistants
  • For B6 Experience of supervision of students and assistants

Clinical Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills especially with children
  • Good Leadership/organisational/planning/prioritisation skills
  • Ability to motivate and negotiate to encourage reluctant and challenging patients
  • Experience of and commitment to interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary team working
