Job overview
Our gastrointestinal medicine and surgery team (GIMS) forms one of the largest clinical services units in the Trust and provides outpatient care throughout Manchester and inpatient gastroenterology services at Manchester Royal Infirmary, Trafford General Hospital, Wythenshawe Hospital and North Manchester General Hospital. We provide regional services for complex interventional endoscopy, pancreatobiliary medicine as well as neurogastroenterology, and hepatology.
We are the Greater Manchester centre for the Northwest Endoscopy Academy and a regional centre for complex GI haemorrhage and ERCP with comprehensive multidisciplinary support services including vascular interventional radiology and regional surgical services.
Our team includes specialist nurses and dedicated admin support for several elements of the service, including clinical endoscopists, IBD, cancer assessments and hepatology. Endoscopy services are provided at five sites across Manchester, with diagnostics and screening capacity close to patients’ homes. Our therapeutic endoscopy services are comprehensive, including advanced pancreatobiliary interventions (with regular EUS drainage and ablative procedures) and high-level polypectomy, enteroscopy, and portal hypertension therapy. All of our units are equipped with modern Olympus equipment. We are proud of recruiting patients to many high-level interventional and more translational endoscopy studies.
