Junior Sister - Paediatric Unit - NMGH

Job overview

The Paediatric Unit at NMGH cares for children from birth to 16 years with a variety of medical, surgical an mental health conditions, we also care for children requiring HDU level care. Alongside this we are carrying out increasing amounts of elective activity for specialist teams such as ENT and maxfax.

We have an exciting opportunity become available to join our band 6 team on a 9 months secondment to cover maternity leave.  

Main duties of the job

To take charge of the unit and support staff in their roles. 
To liaise with bed managers and operational managers regarding available beds on the ward as well as transfers in.  
To support the ward manager in ensuring staff appraisals are up to date and being familiar with management systems such as absence manager. 
Dealing with complaints from families as well as being able to troubleshoot daily  situations on the ward.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • First level registration - (RN(Adult)/RN(Child)/RSCN
  • Evidence of CPD in relevant specialty
  • Evidence of Level 3 studies
  • Relevant teaching qualification
  • Qualified to function as mentor for pre registration students
Desirable criteria
  • Child Protection D32/33 or A1 modules
  • Appropriate management or leadership courses

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Previous sufficient experience in relevant post registration experience, experience must be within relevant clinical setting
  • Evidence of professional leadership, leading to innovation in practice
  • Evidence of multi disciplinary/multi agency working
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical audit
  • Experience of research activities
