Group Chief Finance Officer

Executives / VSM

Job overview

Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT) is one of England’s largest NHS Trusts with a turnover of £2.6bn and is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts.

MFT has an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance leader, already established as a Chief Finance Officer or Deputy within a large complex NHS organisation, to join our Board of Directors as Group Chief Finance Officer. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive Officer and working collaboratively with Executive colleagues, the ideal candidate will provide inspirational leadership, with strong values that match ours and role model an unwavering drive to deliver the strategic ambition of the Trust as an anchor organisation in healthcare for the city of Manchester and borough of Trafford.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Group Executive Director team, you will provide strategic and operational advice to the Group Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors and will inspire new energy and modern thinking to support delivery of our strategic ambitions, new group operating model, and multi-year financial recovery plan. First and foremost, you will have leadership experience and be well seasoned in delivering large scale transformation programmes which have delivered major cost improvements. You will also be expected to maintain strong working relationships with system partners to facilitate delivery of the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Strategy.

The Group Chief Finance Officer is a pivotal role to our future success as we push to improve the care and services for the people of Manchester, Trafford, and beyond. Applicants will bring significant experience as a finance leader within a large complex NHS organisation or specifically within an acute hospital / community group structure, inclusive of a significant research, innovation, and teaching portfolio.  Your style of working means you take teams with you in both challenging and ambitious times, and you will provide highly visible leadership to an executive portfolio spanning financial management, strategic planning, procurement, and commercial matters.

Working for our organisation

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system which launched in September 2022.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
