Healthcare Scientist in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics

The appointee will be a biological science graduate. It is essential for the appointee to have experience within Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I), and working towards specialist qualifications such as BSHI Diploma or STP Training in H&I. 

At appointment, registration with the Health and Care Professions Council is desirable. 

A healthcare scientist without HCPC registration will be provided with relevant training and experience in order to achieve this.

After appropriate training, a healthcare scientist without HCPC registration will perform tasks listed in this job description under supervision.

The appointee is expected to develop to a high standard, technical and analytical skills in practical aspects of H&I and their clinical application. They may pursue studies for a higher academic or professional qualification.

With reference to senior staff, the appointee will be responsible for organising and planning workload in a time efficient manner.

After appropriate training, the appointee will make significant contributions to the diagnostic service by performing H&I techniques and recording test results, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of laboratory databases.

The appointee will analyse and interpret test results and prepare reports for verification and authorisation.

The appointee will be expected to take a lead role in daily laboratory activities on a rota basis by supervision of the laboratory assistants, technologists and trainee scientists involved in specimen reception and sample processing

After appropriate training, the appointee will participate in out-of-hours on-call duties.

Participation in an appropriate CPD scheme (e.g. BSHI) is mandatory following HCPC registration.
