Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Infectious Diseases

The Infectious Diseases Directorate at MFT is delighted to invite applicants for Senior Clinical Fellow (SCF) posts in the Infectious Diseases Managed Single Service based at North Manchester General Hospital & Wythenshawe Hospital, with the potential to undertake infection related clinical activities at other Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) sites.

There are 5 Senior Fellow posts in the ID MSS and are offered as follows:

  • 2 Senior Clinical Fellow posts based at Wythenshawe
  • 3 Senior Clinical Fellow posts based at NMGH

  Please note: MFT is not a right to work sponsoring organisation for Tier 5. Should a candidate require Tier 5 sponsorship, they must apply through the Academy of Royal College via the MTI Scheme.

Each post is available for 24 months  with a start date around August 2025. 

 

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain a breadth of experience across the inpatient and outpatient services in Infectious Diseases. They will work closely with the senior medical team to deliver high quality care to patients referred to the team.

The post holder must be able to formulate appropriate diagnostic and management plans, taking into account patient preferences. The post holder will supervise the work of junior colleagues and provide advice & support as necessary. They will be expected to act in a professional manner, knowing their own limitations and liaising with the senior colleagues when required.

The Infectious Diseases team is a highly supportive and effective team. The post holder will be required to be responsive and flexible to the varying needs of the department and its staff, and should have good team working skills that supports them working in partnership with colleagues of all disciplines.

The postholder will be allocated an Education Supervisor who will be responsible for offering support, guidance and supervision during the placement. Whilst, this post is not a formally recognised HENW training post, it will deliver a similar experience. The postholder will be encouraged and supported in developing and maintaining a portfolio evidencing their progress and personal development.

Education and Qualifications

  • Primary medical qualification (eg. MBChB, MBBS)
  • Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of Foundation training or equivalent training and experience
  • Evidence of achievement of ST1 and ST2 or equivalent competencies in Medicine and completion of MRCP

  • Completion of other post graduate qualification
  • Evidence of completion of formal 'hands on' training in Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Registration

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid Licence to Practise with the General Medical Council (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)

  • Research experience
  • Experience of working within General Medicine in the NHS
  • Demonstrates an interest in medical specialty training
  • Teaching achievement (including attendance at teaching courses, etc)

Communication

  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC’s Good Medical Practice (2013). This could be demonstrated by one of the following: - Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English - Have the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6. - Occupational English Test (OET) certificate which must show: - You took the medicine version of the test - You got at least a grade ‘B’ in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
  • Empathetic and sensitive to patients needs
  • Able to explain things clearly – particularly complex or sensitive information
  • Able to influence and persuade effectively
