Joint Chief Medical Officer

Executives / VSM

Job overview

MFT is one of the largest NHS Foundation Trusts in England with over 30,000 staff, 5-7000 trainees and a turnover of £2.8bn. We are by definition a big and complex organisation on a different scale to most other NHS trusts and we are viewed as an organisation of national significance.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced medical leader with a track record in consistently delivering clinical effectiveness and patient safety to join our Board of Directors as Joint Chief Medical Officer. This is a pivotal role to our future success as we push to improve the care and services for the communities that we serve and the ideal candidate will provide inspirational leadership, with strong values that match ours and role model an unwavering drive to deliver the strategic ambition of the Trust as an anchor organisation in healthcare for Manchester, Trafford and beyond.

We are looking for an individual with significant recent clinical and leadership experience, ideally gained within a large complex Teaching Trust who is able to demonstrate the ability to deliver clinical effectiveness and ongoing improvements to patient safety. Effective teamwork will ideally be central to the successful delivery of our Organisational Strategy, with a style and approach which is consistent with our values.

Main duties of the job

As a key member of the Executive team, you will provide strategic and operational advice to the Trust Chief Executive and the Board of Directors and be expected to deliver on a range of clinical / patient safety and related objectives. You will provide highly visible leadership to the medical and dental workforce across all Trust sites, engaging and empowering them to achieve excellence in the delivery of patient care.

Our Joint Chief Medical Officers lead a wide-ranging portfolio with diverse responsibilities across key areas including, but not limited to, clinical governance and patient safety, appraisal and revalidation and professional matters, research and innovation, medical education and medical workforce.

Innovative and creative in your thinking, you will make decisions that encourage new ways of working to develop a culture of improvement, contributing to the development and implementation of the internal clinical service redesign, ensuring the Trust remains at the forefront of service delivery and clinical service innovation in line with any potential changes to the external environment.

Working for our organisation

Bringing together 10 hospitals & community services from across Manchester, Trafford & beyond, we champion collaborative working & transformation, encouraging our 30,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate so you’ll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We’ve also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient & staff experience, operational effectiveness & driving research, and innovation through the introduction of Hive; our Electronic Patient Record system.

We’re proud to be a major academic Research Centre & Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. What’s more, we’re excited to be embarking on our Green Plan which sets out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable.

At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, provide equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing and shaping the future of our organisation together.
