At the RMCH, we’re looking for people who really want to care for children and their families. You may have already had some caring experience gained in a healthcare or social care setting, or you might be a care giver or guardian outside of work. You might have previous experience of working with people in a different setting, like hospitality, retail, or other service industry.  These are all relevant experiences for the role of a Nursing Assistant. If you’ve got the personal skills, resilience, and work ethic we’re looking for, that’s where it starts.

If you’ve already got qualifications like the National Care Certificate or Level 2 Apprenticeship in healthcare, that’s great. But don’t worry if you don’t - our Clinical Support Worker Development Programme will support you to gain all the skills and knowledge you need. This includes the completion of the Care Certificate for candidates who have not completed this previously. The great news is the completion of this Programme will progress you into a Band 3 Nursing Assistant role.

Main duties of the job

Above all else, when you join us as a Nursing Assistant, you’ll make sure our patients have the quality care and support they deserve.

In the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, roles are vital and varied. You might work with children who have a physical disability or a mental health condition. You might work with a child who has come into our hospital through an accident or emergency or from a planned procedure. Whatever reason a loved one is in hospital, it takes its toll on their family too. You’ll treat every person you come across with dignity, respect, kindness, and patience.

Some of the specific responsibilities of the role will include:

• Personal care such as washing, dressing and supporting patients toileting needs
• Helping children eat and drink
• Helping children to move around
• Monitoring conditions of patients through temperature, pulse and weight checks
• Making children and their relatives feel welcome, safe, and supported.
• Communicating with and co-ordinating families and healthcare practitioners.
• Helping children, carers and relatives take an active role in their care

We welcome applications from those looking for a flexible working arrangement and will accommodate requests wherever our services allow. These roles do require a minimum commitment of 22.5 hours a week however, and the availability to undertake the required training.

Unfortunately, these roles are not eligible for sponsorship under current Home Office regulations.
