Locum Consultant in Neuro-Ophthalmology

The Manchester Royal Eye Hospital wishes invite applications for the locum post of Consultant Ophthalmologist with a special interest in neuro ophthalmology and adult strabismus surgery to join the current team of three consultants.
Main duties of the job
The Consultant will provide sub-specialty expertise in neuro ophthalmology as well as adult strabismus surgery. It is aimed that the consultant will have a weekly strabismus surgery list as well as a regular cataract list. Applicants should have a fellowship in neuro ophthalmology and strabismus.
The consultant will have an on call and emergency department commitment.
Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists or equivalent and appropriate fellowship training is essential and a higher degree is desirable. This is a 10 PA consultant contract. Applications will be accepted from those who for personal reasons cannot work full-time.
Applicants must be eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment.
Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via one of the following:
1) Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT)
(The proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview)
2) Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)
(CESR Candidates must have written GMC confirmation at the time of interview)

Person specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential criteria
- MBChB or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent FRCOphth
- Fellowship training in neuro ophthalmology and strabismus
- Completion of higher training
- Full GMC registration and currently on Specialist Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview
Knowledge/Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems, both emergency and elective within the areas of medical and surgical specialist cases and general ophthalmology
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Teaching and Audit
Essential criteria
- Experience and commitment to high quality teaching and training of undergraduates and postgraduates and non-medical staff
- Teaching qualification
- Commitment to continuing medical education and the requirements of clinical governance and audit
- Experience and commitment to training post-graduate ophthalmic trainees in ophthalmic care including surgical techniques.
- Experience of Clinical Audit in Ophthalmology
Academic Achievements and Research
Essential criteria
- Ability to apply research to clinical problems
- Publications in recognised ophthalmic journals
Desirable criteria
- Higher Qualification MD or PhD
