Working within an existing and busy paediatric diabetes team this is an opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in a specialist nurse role and diabetes management .  RMCH have rare and complex cases of diabetes which will give you wider understanding of the variants of diabetes.

Main duties of the job

The Children's Diabetes team at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (RMCH) is pleased to be able to offer a  band 6,  2 permanent posts for a  Paediatric Diabetes Nurse Specialist.

You must be passionate about paediatric diabetes and achieving optimum health outcomes for children, young people and their families living with this long term condition. Experience within diabetes is desirable but a full training and a comprehensive induction package will be offered.

The established multi-disciplinary team comprises of paediatricians and endocrinologists, nurses, dietitians, psychologists and a youth worker working to provide a seamless service across, primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary care environments. Care is delivered in the home, school and within inpatient and outpatient settings. An established insulin pump service has been in place since 2006 with approximately 50% of our current caseload on insulin pumps. Service performance and outcomes are continuously being measured as part of Best Practice Tariff. We fully participate in the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit and are able to benchmark ourselves against similar services.

The team provides support to families Monday-Friday from 08.00 - 17.00 with out of hours service available for families.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RN CHILD
  • Educated to Dipolma level
Desirable criteria
  • Graduate or working towards first degree in health related subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in relevant speciality (diabetes)
  • Recent evidence of continuing professional and personal development, both clinical and managerial.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in Paediatric Diabetes
  • Evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff groups
  • Demonstrate and provide evidence of understanding and use of new technology used in paediatric diabetes

Leadership

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Evidence of involvement in change management

IT

Essential criteria
  • Aware of applications of IT packages such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
  • Good knowledge of clinical information systems

Research

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrates knowledge of research based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrates ability and knowledge on how to undertake audit and feedback to clinicians
