Junior Locally Employed Doctor in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

Job overview

The Paediatric Emergency Department at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital are looking to recruit to our team of resident doctors. The junior tier of the rota is provided by 12 resident doctors including FY2s, GP Trainees and JLEDs.

This post is intended to provide experience for a resident doctor in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at F3/ST1-2 equivalent level. It is especially aimed at those wishing to gain more experience of acute paediatrics in an Emergency Department setting. Candidates may wish to use this job to gain evidence of competences when working towards a CESR or looking to enter training posts.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities include:

  • To work at the ‘junior’ resident doctor level in the PED
  • Initial assessment of children presenting to the PED
  • Review children admitted to our CCDU for observation or ongoing treatment
  • Complete some administrative tasks including discharge paperwork and following up clinical results
  • Deliver ‘shopfloor’ and formalised training to the medical students, other resident doctors and nursing colleagues
  • Take part in audit, quality improvement projects and guideline development

Person specification

Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Medical Degree (MBChB or equivalent)
  • Full registration (or eligible for full registration) with the General Medical Council and Licensed to Practice
  • Successful completion of Foundation Programme (or equivalent)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 4 months experience of working in Paediatric or Emergency Medicine
  • At least 6 months experience of working in the United Kingdom and NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Experience with using Electronic Patient Records
  • Contribution to service development, audit or research
