Locum Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology

YC73

Job overview

A vacancy has arisen for a Locum Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist to work 10 Programmed Activities. This post will replace one retiring colleague. The successful candidate will join a team of 8 consultant colleagues (7.5 WTE). The Consultant will be based at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The clinical aspects of the post will be overseen by a surgical CSU, within the Division of Children’s Services. The post-holder will work closely with all members of the nephrology and wider teams.

The appointee will provide in and outpatient care for patients with nephrology conditions.  This will include a specific focus on home haemodialysis with the post supporting the expansion of this service to patients across the Northwest.

Emergency and out of hours cover is provided by a consultant on call rota (non-resident) which is high intensity but always interesting and challenging. The on-call consultant undertakes ward rounds on
Saturdays and Sundays.

Cross-cover arrangements are in place to cover patients during times of leave. It is expected that the post holder will work closely with consultant colleagues to ensure clear handover and continuity of care for all patients and that time off during non-hot weeks will be taken flexibly to ensure the department is fully covered at all times.

The post will attract 10 PAs as detailed in the attached sample job plan. 1 PA per week is dedicated to continued professional development and teaching.
