Job overview

Ward 84 OPD/DCU is a regional centre for treatment of children with life threatening malignancies and blood disorders. It is a dedicated Out-patient and Day Case facility. Our clinic facilitates 30 plus Oncology/Haematology clinics per week including a weekly general anaesthetic list for bone marrow and lumber puncture procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with a professional and friendly team, delivering high standards of care to our patients and their families as they undertake complex treatment. 

We are currently looking for a hard working and enthusiastic Outpatient receptionist to support our department and achieve an effective and efficient service to our patients.

Please note: There can be occasional/distressing circumstances when dealing with emotional relatives and the consequences of terminal illness.

Main duties of the job

  1. To provide a wide range of administrative and clerical duties to the unit/staff. Contribute to the provision of a customer-centric reception service, communicating effectively with patients, staff and visitors, and ensuring their needs are met.
  2. To ensure that administration and clerical issues are managed efficiently, and our Electronic Patient Record system HIVE, is updated in a timely manner.
  3. Dealing promptly with routine enquiries from staff and patients both on the telephone and in person, communicating appropriately thereafter.
  4. To assist in arranging appointment and admissions, where appropriate to the specialty.
  5. Providing assistance to your colleagues and cover for sickness and annual leave, helping to ensure an effective administrative service at all times
  6. You need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issue
  7. Undertake any training that is required for the safe effective execution of duties of the post
