Clinical research at MFT

Our MFT Research and Innovation strives to be at the forefront of R&I in UK healthcare. We are dedicated to driving continuous improvement in the care our patients receive through clinical research. We support over 300 principal investigators undertake research across a diverse range of clinical areas, with more than 800 active studies, involving 15,000 patients, deliver improved diagnostics, treatments and devices for patients in Manchester and beyond.

Main duties of the job

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can contribute to the development of research within the Oncology Research team based at Nightingale Centre, Wythenshawe hospital and our Oncology study portfolio includes Breast, Urology and GI.

You will take a proactive approach in managing clinical research studies including developing study procedures and practice, gaining consent and approvals and recruiting patients, alongside clinical duties including providing the highest quality patient care and collecting and processing samples. 

  You will be instrumental in implementing study objectives and will provide dedicated support to ensure that studies are delivered to time and target.  

You will be the main point of contact for study principal investigators, sponsors and patients and so effective communication and team working skills are essential. You will be involved in ensuring that research undertaken at MFT safeguards the well-being of patients and is undertaken within ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines.  

You will have a flexible approach to your working pattern. You may be required to work across sites and  variety of shifts to perform your role satisfactorily and to meet the needs of the Research delivery .   

Comprehensive training and an induction programme will be provided for successful candidates. We will also ensure that you have tailored, individual personal development plans with support for further training.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse- currently registered with the NMC
  • Degree in healthcare subject or equivalent level of experience
Desirable criteria
  • Good Clinical Practice certificate
  • Mentorship training
  • Additional specialist training /Post graduate diploma

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of clinical research
  • Knowledge of ICH- GCP regulations relating to clinical research
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of clinical and research governance
  • Knowledge of Trust policies and procedures

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of working in a clinical environment
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and dealing with a busy workload
  • Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
  • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Data management experience
  • Audit experience
  • Experience in clinical research
  • Interest in research

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Awareness and respect for confidentially
  • Demonstrable IT skills including email and Microsoft office programs (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)

  • Advanced use of spreadsheets
