The National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) experimental medicine centres of excellence via competitive application every five years. We're proud that the Manchester BRC has been awarded £64.1million over five years (2022-2028) to provide experimental medicine infrastructure funding across Greater Manchester Lancashire and South Cumbria. We're looking for a proactive and motivated individual to join us as a Partnerships Manager for the NIHR Manchester BRC, with commercial or academic experience, you'll help drive the delivery of our Innovation and partnerships strategy. Working as part of the BRC Innovation and Partnerships Team, you'll be responsible for bringing together partners from across Greater Manchester’s R&I academic and clinical ecosystem, facilitating the development of collaborative projects with our external partners ensuring our research is fit for commercial uptake. What's more, you'll be passionate about innovation in research, with experience of developing and managing external partnerships across the industry and academic sectors.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties:

·        You’ll work as part of a multi-disciplinary core team, providing comprehensive, high quality business development and relationship management support for the BRC.

·        With strong organisational and time management skills and a flexible approach to work, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of BRC commercial interests, supporting commercial enquires, developing strategic partnerships with industry, and helping our researchers and partners navigate the GM Research and Innovation ecosystem.

·        What’s more, as both an excellent communicator and confident networker, you’ll actively promote and market the aims, strategic vision, and research outputs of the BRC to drive new collaborations across the commercial sector. 

·        You'll use your experience to drive and deliver key aspects of our strategic programmes, including but not limited to the BRC innovation working group, Industry board and the Innovator training scheme.

·        It goes without saying, you’ll be tenacious with a proactive approach, working with a wide range of stakeholders and sectors to understand and align their priorities for mutual benefit.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Life, health or medical sciences discipline
  • Project management or business management qualification, or evidence of equivalent relevant professional project management experience
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to post-graduate level (MSc or PhD) or equivalent.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Proven experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience of business development in an academic, clinical or commercial setting
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of NIHR Infrastructure Funding
  • Experience working in the NHS

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, and evidence of working in a systematic manner.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of the structure of NHS organisations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Health and Life sciences commercial sector priorities
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of NHS research and innovation agenda.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of national research and innovation infrastructure

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Essential criteria
  • Experience of managing relationships with partners across the health/life science industry sectors
  • Experience of facilitating events and meetings
  • Experience of report writing
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of clinical-academic research & innovation delivery
  • Experience of commercial contracting processes

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
