Consultant (x3) in Respiratory Medicine with Interest in Thoracic Oncology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two new consultant posts to join the Lung Cancer & Thoracic surgery directorate at  Manchester University Foundation Trust (MFT), in anticipation of the expansion of Targeted Lung Health Checks (lung screening) across Greater Manchester.

The successful applicants will join an established team of health care professionals in providing specialist respiratory services to a population in excess of 3.2 million people.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to:

  • Share with Consultant colleagues the responsibility for providing clinical services for the local population
  • Be readily available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely
  • Ensure that management plans are clearly displayed in the notes of patients
  • Be actively involved in the leadership, management and decision making within Directorate
  • Work flexibly to achieve high quality care through the team job plan covering all aspects of the service.
  • Ensure the policies for communication with General Practitioners, Trust staff and patients are followed
  • Ensure that optimal use is made of all resources allocated to the post
  • Cover Consultant colleagues during periods of leave.

Person specification

Attainments

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered Medical Practitioner
  • MRCP
  • Within 6 months of receiving CCST in Thoracic Medicine
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate thesis
  • Publications in peer reviewed journals

Training

Essential criteria
  • As required by the Royal College of Physicians
  • Formal Specialist Registrar training in Thoracic Medicine

Professional interests and experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both elective & emergency within speciality
  • Clinically competent in Bronchoscopy
  • Ability to take full & independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • Active and ongoing interest in research
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in ILD

Managment and administrations

Essential criteria
  • Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities & waiting lists
  • Ability to manage and lead a team

Teaching

Essential criteria
  • Interest in undergraduate & postgraduate teaching
  • Ability to teach clinical and procedural skills

Domestic

Essential criteria
  • Resident within a reasonable travel time of the hospital or equivalent access

Physical

Essential criteria
  • Satisfactory medical clearance by Manchester University Hospitals NHS Trust
