Highly Specialised Paediatric Clinical Physiologist – Respiratory

Job overview

Due to the expansion of  the  Community Diagnostic Programme to include a Children's and Young Person Asthma diagnostics pathway, an exciting opportunity has arisen within our Respiratory Physiology teams across Manchester Foundation trust.

We are looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Healthcare Scientist ideally with experience working with  children and young people  to join our busy expanding and evolving service.

The successful applicant should be a friendly and highly motivated individual that wants to excel professionally and is committed to provide a high-quality service.

The role will  be to deliver person centred care, comprehensive respiratory assessment and expert opinion and advice to our MDT. 

This role is based at our two CDC sites one in the south of Manchester at Withington Community diagnostic centre, and one in the North of Manchester at our Harpurhey Diagnostic centre. 

The successful candidate will need to be willing to travel to these two sites and to the host hospital departments at Wythenshawe Hospital and North Manchester Hospital. 

Main duties of the job

Delivery of  a comprehensive asthma diagnostic pathway for Children and Young People.

Responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and quality of the test procedures and producing accurate reports based on these procedures.

Participating in MDT discussions and supporting wider decision making 

To assist in the management of staff, including personal development plans, performance appraisals, recruitment and selection.

Participate in the education, development and line management of junior staff.

Contribute to teaching Clinical Physiology to BSc and MSc students.

Participate in improvement of services and the quality of care provision.

Opportunity to rotate through host departments to maintain skills in  Challenge test, cardiopulmonary exercise testing, respiratory muscle assessment, fitness to fly assessment, long term oxygen assessment and allergen skin prick testing.

To ensure data quality by undertaking equipment calibration and quality control for all tests performed within the laboratory

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent
  • Professional knowledge in Respiratory/Sleep supplemented by post graduate specialist training to MSc level or equivalent
  • ARTP courses or equivalent
  • AHCS or HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • MSc (Hons) Clinical Physiology degree or equivalent
  • Paediatric Respiratory qualifications
  • Leadership Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial experience post registration working at a senior level in a Respiratory /Sleep department
  • Perform and interpret a wide range of complex respiratory and sleep physiology diagnostic investigations
  • Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Teaching, training and assessing experience
Desirable criteria
  • Clinical experience working with paediatrics
  • Experience of service development and staff management
  • Competent at CPAP issue and after care with patients
  • Financial knowledge and budget management

Skills/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgements
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in use of Epic software
