Job overview
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Band 6 Anaesthetic Practitioner to join our dynamic theatre team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality perioperative care, supporting the anaesthetic team, and mentoring junior staff. This role requires excellent clinical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Provide skilled anaesthetic assistance for elective and emergency procedures across a wide range of specialities.
- Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the perioperative journey.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining anaesthetic equipment, drugs, and consumables.
- Support the Anaesthetist in airway management and critical interventions.
- Monitor and respond to patient conditions during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia.
Leadership & Management:
- Act as a role model, providing clinical supervision, mentorship, and support to junior staff and students.
- Lead by example, promoting high standards of care and adherence to protocols.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and policy development to enhance patient care and theatre efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, health & safety, and governance policies.
- Assist in planning and coordinating anaesthetic services to meet service demands.
Education & Development:
- Facilitate ongoing professional development for self and colleagues through training, education, and reflective practice.
- Support and deliver teaching sessions for junior staff, students, and new starters.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anaesthetic practices, new technologies, and relevant guidelines.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- First level registration - (RN(Adult)
- Operating Department Practitioner
- Evidence of CPD in relevant specialty
- Evidence of Level 6/7 studies
- Qualified to function as mentor for pre registration students
Desirable criteria
- Appropriate management or leadership courses.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience at band 5 and in clinical specialty
- Evidence of professional leadership, leading to innovation in practice.
- Evidence of multi disciplinary/multi agency working.
SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Evidence of teaching and assessing skills/ability.
- Clinically competent in name clinical area/speciality
- Proven workload management of self and of a others.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable.
- Good analytical and clinical decision making skills
- Awareness of Clinical Effectiveness process
