Endoscopy Decontamination Technician

Job overview

Our Endoscopy Decontamination Department deals with decontamination of medical devices and re-processing of endoscopes for the endoscopy unit and theatres.

Shifts are worked over 5 days Monday to Friday with a possibility of weekend work.

The role involves exposure to blood and bodily fluids within a contained environment.

The post holder will:

  • Maintain and promote personal and professional image in accordance with stated expectations.
  • Undertake the role of washing and decontamination of endoscopes and related endoscopic equipment.
  • To reprocess endoscopes, record all processes of each endoscope in the tracking and tracing database and to ensure all endoscopes are stored correctly adhering to safety procedures.
  • To work at all times in accordance with the departments standard operating procedures and the quality management systems and to adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
  • To provide clinical support as required, and to always ensure the efficient and effective running of the endoscopy department and decontamination facilities.
  • To undertake the role of assisting the professionally qualified staff in the delivery of all aspects of care to ensure patient focused care is delivered safely and in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

When working within the decontamination unit the participate should ensure communication is consistent with legislation, policy and procedure.

The post holder will:

  • Communicate in a professional manner with colleagues and show an understanding in identifying the complexity of communication within an indication audience.
  • Maintain good relationships, communications with all disciplines within the Trust.
  • Provide exceptional communication when working within the decontamination unit to be able to provide and receive routine messages from endoscopy staff on the endoscopy unit.
  • Maintain good relationships and effective communication with any other personnel that contacted is needed with in a day-to-day basis. For example manufacturers and suppliers.
  • The participant should be able to communicate referring issues to the appropriate person where necessary, this could be face to face, written or using IT systems.
