Senior Clinical Fellow Paediatrics

Senior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

The post holder will join the existing team of consultant paediatricians, specialty doctors and specialty trainees working in the Paediatric Directorate which is part of the Women and Children’s Division of The Royal Oldham Care Organisation part of the Northern Care Alliance.

Senior Clinical Fellows will join a rota of middle grade doctors and will work in a variety of settings including the emergency department, the paediatric observation and assessment unit, the ward and paediatric outpatients. Senior clinical fellows are well supported with 2 middle grades on shift at almost all times and resident consultants on site in the evenings. There will also be opportunities to master safeguarding skills under the supervision of the consultants. This role does not involve neonatal work as the trust has a separate level 3 neonatal unit.

Main duties of the job

The Royal Oldham Hospital has a single inpatient paediatric ward with 24 Paediatric beds including 4 HDU beds. There is also a 24 hour Paediatric observation and assessment unit (POAU). The Emergency department at Royal Oldham is a recognised Trauma Unit in Greater Manchester. A new paediatric area within the emergency department has recently been opened. There is a Level 3 Tertiary Neonatal Unit at Oldham and this has its own directorate and separate staffing arrangements. There is a paediatric specific outpatients department located on the Royal Oldham hospital site. Paediatric outpatient clinics are also held at Rochdale hospital.
