Job overview

We are looking to recruit a high calibre, enthusiastic and motivated senior clinical pharmacist to lead the clinical pharmacy service at the Royal Oldham Hospital, part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust. 

The clinical pharmacy team covers a wide range of clinical specialties including Emergency and Unscheduled Care, Respiratory, Cardiology, Geriatric, Haematology, Diabetes and Endocrine, Gastroenterology, Critical Care, Urology, Orthopaedic Trauma, Vascular, Colorectal Surgery and General Surgery Maternity, Paediatrics and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care.

Leading a team of 40 pharmacists, supported by experienced pharmacy technicians and medicine management assistants you will continue to develop the strong, patient focused clinical pharmacy service.

This position is ideal for a pharmacist looking to consolidate and develop both clinical and managerial skills, where knowledge obtained from a post-graduate qualification in clinical pharmacy or equivalent will be essential along with team management experience.

This is a demanding but rewarding role which requires excellent time management and prioritisation skills.

You must be a motivated and driven pharmacist with excellent clinical and communication skills. You must be efficient, organised, both able to work in a team as well as lead a team and be innovative and resourceful. You must be willing to work flexible hours over a seven-day period within a structured rota.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for the provision of a high quality clinical pharmacy service which meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within and associated with the Trust. Assists in the management and development of the clinical services delivered by the pharmacy and supports the activity of the team of clinical pharmacists and trainee pharmacists, clinically supervising their training and ensuring that professional and quality standards comply with national and local guidance. Undertakes clinical training and supervision of pharmacy staff and teaching of nursing and medical staff.  Is professionally accountable for any pharmacy function for which they assume responsibility.

Essential criteria
  • Postgraduate clinical qualification.
  • Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy.
