Job overview
The respiratory service is a front facing team undertaking inpatient and outpatient activity on site and out in community venues, they work closely with the hospital at home team and PLS to improve length of stay by utilising early supported discharge and avoidable admission processes to support patients receiving acute care within their own homes. They are based in the chest clinic at The Royal Oldham Hospital and provide sub speciality input such as, Asthma, COPD, Interstitial lung disease, Pleural work, Lung cancer and general respiratory conditions.
The respiratory care unit is comprised of 2 Respiratory and General medicine Wards, F9 and F10, on the Royal Oldham Hospital Site. There are comprehensive diagnostics including MRI/CT and PACS with digital imaging across all 4 sites, and our EBUS service is out of Fairfield. Essential laboratory facilities are available with a new centralised laboratory at the Royal Oldham Hospital. The appointee will have use of an office at one of the Trust Sites and will have the required IT hardware/software and secretarial support.
Main duties of the job
To provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management and treatment for patients with a broad spectrum of respiratory needs; act as an expert resource for medical, nursing and other health care professionals across the Trust footprint; and be an active champion of high-quality frailty and older persons care both locally and across the region.
The post holder will complement and develop existing services through the provision of specialist knowledge & expertise in people with a respiratory condition. The post holder is therefore required to have full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid licence to practice and be on the specialist register for Respiratory Medicine (CESR) or be within 6 months of CCT or equivalent at the time of interview

Professional registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council with a valid license to practice (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)
- Registration on the GMC Specialist Register-CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
Knowledge, Training & Experience
Essential criteria
- Wide experience in Respiratory Medicine
- Experience of leading and motivating staff.
- Good understanding of Clinical Governance
- Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change
- Evidence of participation in research
Desirable criteria
- Research Skills: Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments
- Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report – not abstracts or letters)
Qualifications

- Primary medical qualification
- MRCP UK
