Job overview

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, organised, and efficient Corporate Head of Nursing based within  Professions and Quality.

The post holder, in conjunction with the Deputy Chief Nurse, will contribute to the strategic direction for nursing and professional standards for nursing and other professional practice in GMMH.  This will include the development and delivery of key actions within the Trust Nursing Strategy and other relevant clinical strategies.

Through highly visible leadership the post-holder will undertake a range of duties and responsibilities that support professional staff to deliver safe and high-quality evidence-based practice across the Trust.

The post will have direct responsibility for the supervision of the ‘Heads of’ roles within the overall Nursing and Quality offering deputy support to the effective overall management of the team to the Deputy Chief Nurse.

The post will provide day to day leadership for maintaining IPC standards and high standards of professional practice via direct management of the IPC lead nurses, the physical healthcare lead for the Trust as well as the medicines management lead and the professional standards lead nurse.

The post-holder will provide nursing leadership and professional standards support across the integrated healthcare agenda, ensuring professional practice standards are upheld across the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • In conjunction with the Deputy Chief Nurse will ensure the development of a high-quality nursing and professional standards service in key areas of practice and performance.
  • Provide direct supervision to the ‘Heads of’ in each team within the overall Nursing and Quality team providing deputy support to the Deputy Chief Nurse
  • To provide day to day operational management for the IPC team, professional lead nurses and physical healthcare team.
  • Provide professional nursing advice and professional standards guidance to services as required.
  • Demonstrate high levels of political astuteness and organisational awareness.
  • Build and develop effective networks across the Trust and the wider health, and social care community within the Trust footprint.
  • Contribute to the work of the Chief and Deputy Chief Nurse to ensure that a coherent vision for nursing and professional practice is developed taking into account public policy, legislation, and GMMH strategic objectives.
  • Create and sustain professional environments where clinical staff view change as an essential element of health and social care
  • Develop effective processes for planning, introducing and monitoring best practice and standards guidelines.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • Current RMN or RN-LD Nursing registration
Desirable criteria
  • • Master’s degree in relevant subject

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Substantial senior clinical nursing experience
  • • Specialist nursing practice
  • • Senior clinical experience within Mental health or Substance Misuse services.
  • • Senior management/leadership experience
  • • Experience of leading on research projects and audit.
Desirable criteria
  • • Practice experience in physical healthcare setting

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Working knowledge of Requirements for Resuscitation policy and practice
  • • Working knowledge of Infection prevention and control policy and practice
