Job overview
The Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) Single Point of Access service is a friendly, forward thinking and inviting team based at Nye Bevan House in Rochdale.
The purpose of the Single Point of Access is to receive and process referrals for the services of Podiatry and Adult Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, making onward bookings into assessment and treatment clinics held within the HMR community or at Rochdale Infirmary. The department also manages the processing of a significant number of hospital referrals from GP practices including the appointing of referrals for suspected cancer which must be appointed to a hospital clinic within a very tight time-frame.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the receipt and processing of patient referrals and appointment bookings received by the Single Point of access (SPOA). The SPOA receives referrals for hospital specialities, Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy and Podiatry. The post holder will will be delegated a primary area of responsibility e.g. MSK Physiotherapy but will also support other functions as required.
There is also a requirement for reception duties on a rota basis to support the receipt of patients into the MSK Physiotherapy department at Nye Bevan House. Reception and administration duties at the MSK Physiotherapy department at Rochdale Infirmary may be required in times of leave.
The post-holder may also be required to undertake general office duties and arrange patient transport/interpretation services.
The post-holder will also be required to undertake delegated clinical administration tasks e.g. obtaining diagnostic investigation results, uploading clinical information into the patients electronic record, processing of onward referrals/diagnostic investigation requests and supporting queries to other departments.

Qualification
Essential criteria
- RSA 3 or NVQ3 or equivalent in Administration
Desirable criteria
- Systm 1 trained
- ECDL or similar
Experience
Essential criteria
- Able to demonstrate experience of working with the general public in a service environment
- High level of secretarial and administrative competence. Ability to demonstrate a high level of accuracy.
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of patient pathways within the NHS.
- NHS experience or experience of working in public sector
- Experience of working within a call centre environment or community service.
- Experience of using an electronic patient appointment and record system
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Good IT Knowledge of Microsoft applications
Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
