An exciting opportunity has opened up to join our team. 

With demand on our services at an all time high the role our department provides has never been more critical.

Team Members are required to work on a rota system to cover

8.00am – 6.00pm Monday – Friday

Main duties of the job

As a Booking Clerk your main duties will cover:

  • Managing waiting lists by priority and date order
  • Booking those next on the list to a date and time that suits them
  • Answering and signposting general enquiries from patients calling our appointments line
  • Working collaboratively with the directorate team to ensure the capacity & demand balance is right
  • Organising your workload to meet our KPI’s

To do this we need you to:

  • Be able to prioritise your workload effectively
  • Pride yourself on being organised
  • Have an excellent eye for detail
  • Be confident using a computer and Microsoft Office (in particular Excel)
  • Have an excellent telephone manner
  • Be able to communicate effectively and manage patient expectation
  • Strive to give our patients an excellent customer service
  • Be enthusiastic, resilient, confident, and committed

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy & Literacy (A-C)
Desirable criteria
  • Customer care NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience
  • ECDL

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Be able to prioritise own workload and work to deadlines
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal with a wide range of NHS staff and patients on the telephone
  • Ability to deal effectively with confrontational/challenging situations

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working within a team
  • Experience of working in a customer care environment
  • Office experience and knowledge of administrative procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal with a wide range of NHS staff and patients on the telephone
Desirable criteria
  • Booking & Scheduling/Theatre Scheduling background

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An understanding of NHS targets
  • Good knowledge of computer systems and ability to transfer information accurately
