Job overview

This post is an exciting opportunity for an experienced CAMHS Practitioner/CBT therapist to join Bury CAMHS and support the development of the CYPMH offer into our local communities. You will work in partnership with third sector organisations, early help services and our local multi-agency safeguarding hubs to ensure that our referral pathways are accessible, delivered in true partnership and ensure children ,young people and families that need mental health advice and support can get what they need quickly and easily.

 

Main duties of the job

The postholder will be the team leader and supervisor of NHS and voluntary sector staff members within the Hub and will oversee the provision of low intensity therapeutic interventions for the mental health needs of children and young people accessing the service. The post holder will be qualified in CBT and CBT supervision or have an interest in pursuing accredited CBT supervision training. The postholder will have experiencing line managing mental health professionals, and will have the following responsibilities:
• To manage and develop the stepped care, low intensity CAMHS service for this age group.
• To manage CAMHS clinicians and provide supervision for team members undertaking assessment and a range of interventions / managing caseloads.
• To develop and implement therapeutic plans of care for children and young people with mental health needs. 
• Supporting the service to deliver training and consultation to other children’s agencies. 
• To liaise with other agencies regarding the implementation of care plans and the management of risk for children and young people. 
• To promote and support mental health awareness in agencies supporting children and young people.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You will help ensure that CAMHS Getting Help and Getting More Help support offers are developed and that those CYP that need help and treatment from access it smoothly and at the earliest opportunity. The role will be based in our MH thrive hub, which is an integrated team of voluntary sector employed professionals and CAMHS professionals. The role will involve leading and overseeing the therapeutic interventions offered to children and young people accessing the service. The post holder will be qualified in CBT and CBT supervision to ensure effective supervision of staff members offering low intensity cognitive behaviour therapy.

Your days will be varied and your work will be completed largely within our third sector MH thrive hub with focus on developing pathways of intervention for children accessing the service. This role will have high impact locally and in order to be successful you will need:

  • Strong CYP mental health knowledge and experience.
  • Experience of using training, supervision and consultation as a means of helping other professionals to support the mental health of CYP.
  • Good understanding and commitment to the CAMHS transformation agenda
  • Experience of leading others in ways that inspire innovation and excellence.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Qualified, BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
  • Willingness to complete supervision course

Expeience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of specialist mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and young people with mental health problems and their families.
  • Working collaboratively in a multi- disciplinary team
  • Working collaboratively with other agencies in a variety of venues.
  • Must be experienced in providing risk assessment of self-harming behaviour.
  • Must be experienced in analysing presenting problems and able to demonstrate ability to work autonomously utilising a range of therapeutic perspectives and modalities, depending on the needs of the client.
  • Must demonstrate ability to be self-reflective and to organise own supervision appropriately. Must be able to demonstrate ability to develop and evaluate consultation and training to other professionals and to staff groups

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the evidence base in their practice.
  • Must demonstrate understanding of child development and psychosocial influences.
  • Must demonstrate a working understanding of systemic, psychodynamic and cognitive theories along with recognition of when each approach is appropriate.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of audit and evaluation methodology
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of research methodology.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of current government initiatives underpinning service developments.

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of mental health assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
  • Must demonstrate utilisation of professional development planning in own career progression.
