Job overview

We are pleased to offer an opportunity for 2 full time permanent Band 3 Screening Officers within the District Nursing Contact Centre.

This opportunity has arisen at an exciting time of development for the team and offers an ideal opportunity to contribute towards and be a part of its evolution.

You will provide a comprehensive support service to the District Nursing Team which is an integral part of the Adult Community Services Division with the Integrated Care Directorate.

You will be responsible for the processing of new referrals and discharging patients via the relevant trust systems. You will be responsible for managing the relevant team Microsoft Outlook inboxes and relaying messages to the clinical co-ordinators in a timely manner.

The service runs Monday to Sunday between the hours of 08:00-18:00 and you will work 5 shifts per week between these hours and days.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a customer friendly, responsive service at all times ensuring all contacts are dealt with confidentially and sensitively
  • To screen and process District Nursing referrals by booking clinic appointments or arranging home visits, in a timely and effective manner, following the correct escalation policy when required.
  • You will need to input patient information and/ or referrals accurately and efficiently into various database systems and be able to demonstrate attention to detail when handling sensitive personal data.
  • You will be required to be an effective team player and be able to work on your own initiative, with excellent organisational skills, prioritising your own workload when necessary.
  • To use a range of communication skills to develop excellent working relationships with staff in the team and other users of the service.
  • Receive and respond to a range of enquiries in a courteous and efficient manner
  • To alert the clinicians promptly to urgent referrals and other patient information and to understand and implement escalation processes should they be required
  • To deal with patient enquiries with tact and diplomacy
  • To prioritise and action incoming and outgoing mail, including email, with the timely dissemination of information as required.
  • To demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively using alternative methods when required in order to prevent barriers between staff and patients.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English Language or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • ECDL or equivalent qualification
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
  • RSA level two or equivalent

Knowledge, Training & Experience

  • Experience of using Patient Centre
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office
  • Proven work experience in an administrative role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working within tight deadlines
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of the DATIX system
  • Experience of using Choose & Book
  • Knowledge of EPR (Electronic Patient Record)
  • Previous Experience in a medical / health care background
