Job overview

The Estates Department are looking to enhance their maintenance team and would like to add a Joiner to their team of staff.

You will work with as an integrated member of the Estates team across a multi-discipline of trades.

As a multi-skilled craftsperson, you will have either a joinery/carpentry or building related background and will be able to carry out maintenance, repairs and installation on a full range of estates structural and fabric components/elements with minimum supervision throughout the Trust. You will be expected to complete first fixes of other trades, for  which suitable training for shall be provided to ensure an efficient service is provided to our Trust sites.

Main duties of the job

You will provide a comprehensive building fabric maintenance services to all wards and departments in a multi-disciplined environment, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.

The post holder’s responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Perform a wide range of work on other estates trades as appropriate to their range of work e.g. multi-skilling.
  • The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday. 
  • Some sites operate a shift system which is typically a two-weekly rota:
  • Week 1: 07:00-15:00 hour
  • Week 2: 09:00-17:00 hours
  • The post holder will be expected to partake in the emergency on-call team to ensure emergency repairs are completed outside of normal working hours.
  • Call out and manage contractors out of hours.
  • Undertake regular out of hours on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergency repairs occurring outside of normal working hours are attended, including emergency recall to work.
  • From time to time you will be expected to work overtime to carry out emergency repairs as required.
  • The post holder will be expected and be able to drive Trust vehicles as and when required.

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience working as a joiner.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety in a maintenance environment (training will be provided).
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in an Acute Hospital/Healthcare environment.
  • Multiskilled experience

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Carpentry & Joinery, Or City & Guilds Advanced Craft Certificate Carpentry and Joinery Or equivalent experience
  • Recognised Apprenticeship
  • Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
  • Multi-skill qualification i.e., NVQ level 1 or 2 in another trade or a multi-skill qualification
  • Forklift Truck driving license
