Job overview

Main purpose of the job:

The Fire Safety Advocate is tasked with supporting the Group Fire Safety Manager in the development and delivery of the Group Fire Safety Strategy:

  1. The day-to-day implementation of the fire safety policy and fire safety management plan.
  2. Reporting of non-compliance with legislation, policies and procedures to the Deputy Director Estates Facilities & Capital
  3. Programme, complete and record lower risk fire risk assessments

Main duties of the job

The Fire Safety Advocate will provide fire safety advice, support and training to the NCA Care Organisations (CO's), Community Colleagues, Estates Managers and General Manager for Estates and Facilities. Liaise with the Group Fire Safety Manager and provide any assistance and advice necessary to support in the delivery of fire safety initiatives across the NCA.

  • Support the driving of change in fire safety and awareness.
  • Support with all day-to-day fire safety matters across the  Organisation and support with the implementation of the NCA Fire Safety Management Plan across the EF&C department, clinical areas, community settings and back of house departments.
  • Provide a link to relevant committees and other stakeholder meetings as required.
  • To support the execution of ongoing fire compliance related projects at the NCA and includes attending meetings, provide advice, monitor and check on contractor’s performance and undertake relevant risk assessments following completion of works.
  • Provide assurances to the Fire Strategy Group that the NCA properties under the management of third parties are fire safety compliant.
  • Programme, complete, record and devise suitable action plans for fire risk assessments and ensure that risks identified are shared with the Group Fire Safety Manager as appropriate.
  • Review fire related incidents and fire alarm activation investigations.
  • Liaise with the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service in respect of inspections, site visits and fire calls.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE minimum Grade 4 (C-A) in Maths, English and a Science Related Subject
Desirable criteria
  • Engineering/Health & Safety/Nebosh/IOSH Qualification
  • HNC/Degree or Equivalent Experience

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Excellent keyboard skills, ability to produce documents e.g. reports, procedures, action plans.
  • Experience of engaging with staff across across a wide range work functions and disciplines
  • Ability to plan and manage own workload
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, identify necessary action, make recommendations and ensure actions are implemented.
  • Knowledge of the application of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order).
  • Experience in undertaking fire risk assessments. The ability to motivate others to deliver sometimes challenging outcomes
  • Understanding of the healthcare environment
