Employer heading
Ward Sister / Charge Nurse - Ward L2
Band 6
Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Acute Medicine team on Ward L2, specialising in gastroenterology and hepatology nursing. Ward L2 is a 24-bed unit caring for patients with hepato-biliary conditions, IBS, and substance misuse issues.
Flexible working is required, including weekends and bank holidays, to meet service needs.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who thrives in a busy environment, adapts quickly to change, and can work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will demonstrate care, compassion, and respect for patients and colleagues while maintaining high standards of patient care. An interest in acute gastroenterology nursing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to perform well in a fast-paced setting are essential.
In return, we offer a comprehensive orientation programme, including exposure to endoscopy, where many of our patients undergo procedures. You will be supported by our Practice Development Team, Supervisory Ward Sisters, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, hepato-biliary specialist nurses, a dedicated Discharge Coordinator, and 12 specialist Consultants.
A supernumerary period is provided to help you develop the skills and competencies needed to care for acutely ill patients. If you are passionate about Acute Medicine and want to make a difference, we'd be delighted to welcome you to the team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for assessing patient care needs and developing, implementing, and evaluating programmes of care. This includes acting as the named nurse for a defined group of patients, while also supporting the care of all patients within the unit.
As a Sister/Charge Nurse, you will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. You will actively support the Ward/Unit Manager in the effective running of the department, including deputising in their absence.
You will be able to motivate and inspire staff to achieve high standards of care and demonstrate excellent communication skills to support the delivery of the Trust’s objectives.
We are committed to supporting your professional development and will offer opportunities to strengthen your leadership and management skills, enabling you to work closely with the Ward Manager and team to deliver high-quality care in line with the Trust’s philosophy of Safe, Clean, and Personal Care.
Applications are welcomed from nurses across all specialties.
